Things we love…

If environmental issues are important to you then the Bumbleride Speed will grab your attention. Its eco-friendly qualities certainly made us smile as we found out it was PVC, phthalate and polyurethane foam free. These materials are all disliked for the pollutants created in manufacture and/or potential toxicity, so good to avoid! The pushchair fabrics are also produced using 100% recycled plastic that is spun into polyester. Impressed? We were too.

The super-spacious seat is comfortable for not just baby but children too. We tried a 4 year old in the seat with plenty of room to spare. The extra-large hood with its pull-down visor looks fabulous too, and when fully extended gives baby all the shade they could possibly need. There is also an option to use the carrycot (bassinet) on the chassis, which is not often the case with such performance pushchairs.

Folding and lifting the Bumbleride Speed was made really easy thanks to how light the pushchair was in general. The fold is simple to operate; great when you’re in a hurry.

Perhaps all-importantly for sporty parents wanting to use the Bumbleride Speed for park runs and of- road walks, the push is light thanks to the three air-filled tyres. The rear tyres are large at 16″ each and really make the pushchair stand tall when you’re behind the handlebar, as well as helping you cover the ground when you’re walking or running. The three front wheel positions help to safely guide the pram depending upon what speed you plan on doing, and the push was comfortable whether strolling or really striding out. We even took the Speed for an off-road woodland walk and, with the front wheel locked into place, it pushed really well over the tree roots on the forest floor.

Things to look out for..

There’s not much to fault about the Bumbleride Speed. If we were to be very critical it would be the initial build of the pushchair that we would bring to your attention. You need to fix the rear chassis onto the Speed before you put the wheels on, and the front wheel attachment has a very small screw bolt that was tricky to keep hold of and thus rather too easy to drop and lose!

The brake may also be a sticking point for runners or off-roaders as it is a large chunky bar brake situated between the back wheels. It was reassuringly stiff to put on but definitely not flip-flop friendly to pull back up and release. A handbrake may also be desirable for joggers and serious walkers.

Our verdict

The Bumbleride Speed is a real sportsman’s pram. All of the features, although not lavish or luxurious, work really well. The large seat, as well as the fact it can be used with a carrycot, means you will get true value for money and length of use out of the Speed.
